This is a great story of survival and determination. It’s about a golden Labrador called Luath, a Siamese cat called Tao and an old bull terrier called Bodger. All life is happy until the trio set off to find their master when he goes on holiday. On their venture they intimidate a bear and her cub, survive a flash flood, defeat immense hunger, nearly kill a farmers guard dog and out smart a lynx. How ever, the threesome wouldn’t have made it if it weren’t for the occasional human assistance of food and shelter. All three animals faced their own perils as the old dog Bodger nearly died of starvation, the young dog Luath also nearly died of starvation and also had an infected cheek after he tried to hunt a porcupine for food. Tao narrowly escaped being a lynx’s lunch and he was also half drowned by a river after a beavers dam broke up stream just as he was crossing the river. It is set around the nineteen-sixties in North America. My favourite part is the part when the cat scratches out the eyes of a curious bear cub interested in eating Bodger and intimidating the cub’s mother when it tries to defend it baby. Over all I would rate it at eight and a half out of ten. This was a great read, it is a bit short though. I would strongly recommend reading this exciting book.
